EDITION

In 2018, Chetak 17 (then went by Chetak 12) started EDITION as an exhibition that instigated the practice of printmaking to serve as a response towards the lack of involvement of printmaking works in public exhibitions at the time. Simultaneously, EDITION was planned to introduce the studio as a printmaking centre for artists to produce traditional print works. What should be highlighted here is the key to broadening said opportunities from this point onward.

NEW EDITION is a direct extension of EDITION to showcase the spirit of this practice by a number of a new generation of artists. It is a program – perhaps as the first instalment – that Chetak 17 anticipated to happen annually to spur this generation of artists, regardless of background, to practice printmaking as a primary art form. In a different angle, it acts as a ‘scouting’ effort by building a platform and providing the
facilities to any artists that seek to engage and exhibit their printmaking works for any new and upcoming projects organised by Chetak 17.

A few of the artists that are included in NEW EDITION come from art collectives, progressing with different mindsets in printmaking that cater to the visual sensibilities of the younger generations with screen prints and linocuts, while another half of the artists complemented with printmaking works like etching and collagraph techniques. The mixed and many derivations of printmaking techniques in this exhibition are
intended to purport the growth of the artists’ multitudes in skillsets as well as to maintain the notion of printmaking techniques that have always varied in practice.

New Edition artists are Asmida Ariffin, Faizal Wahab, Luqman Yusry, Rico Leong, Syahnan Anuar and Iwadh S..
